A day following the Trinamool Congress’s significant defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, Mamata Banerjee, the outgoing Chief Minister, highlighted the need to bolster the INDIA Bloc for a national movement against the BJP and the NDA-led Centre. Banerjee dismissed the idea of resigning voluntarily to the Governor, citing that the election outcome did not truly reflect the public’s will.
Banerjee expressed that the defeat was not a genuine one but a result of alleged misappropriation and vote manipulation. She mentioned receiving support calls from key INDIA Bloc leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, Akhilesh Yadav, and Hemant Soren after the election results. The Chief Minister stated that the alliance would grow stronger in the future, with plans for Opposition unity.
She asserted that the election contest was more against the Election Commission of India (ECI) than the BJP, accusing the ECI of undemocratic practices. Banerjee criticized the ECI for alleged bias and interference, claiming a conspiracy involving the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister. She also alleged mistreatment when she visited a counting center during the election counting process.
