Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee has reinstated Kalyan Banerjee as the Chief Whip of the party’s Parliamentary Party in the Lok Sabha. Kalyan Banerjee, a senior advocate and four-time Lok Sabha member from Sreerampur constituency, had resigned from the position nine months ago. Mamata Banerjee made the announcement during a meeting with Trinamool Congress MPs in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
Kalyan Banerjee had stepped down from his role as the Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha Chief Whip in August 2025, which was accepted by Mamata Banerjee. Following his resignation, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar had taken over the position. However, Kalyan Banerjee has now been reinstated to his former position within a short span of nine months. During the meeting, Mamata Banerjee commended Kalyan Banerjee for his legal work related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal.
Despite the reinstatement, the reasons behind this decision were not disclosed by the party MPs present at the meeting. Mamata Banerjee also urged the party MPs to focus on strengthening public relations in their respective areas following the Trinamool Congress’s defeat in the recent West Bengal Assembly polls.
