The Maharashtra Police have apprehended a 28-year-old man from West Bengal’s 24 Parganas district for allegedly sending over 50 bomb threats to various locations nationwide, including schools, the stock exchange, and metro stations in Mumbai and other states. The accused, identified as Sourav Vishwas, reportedly sent threatening emails over five days to instigate panic and fear among the public. These threats targeted places in Mumbai, Delhi, Gujarat, and other states.
Authorities at the Dindoshi Police Station disclosed that on February 27, an email was circulated to several schools and metro stations in Mumbai, cautioning about imminent bomb explosions within 48 hours. This alarming message prompted swift action from security agencies, leading to a case being filed at the Dindoshi police station and an extensive investigation launched.
Following technical analysis and email tracing, investigators traced the email’s source to New Barrackpore in West Bengal, identifying Saurav Biswas as the sender. A specialized team from the Dindoshi police was dispatched to West Bengal to arrest the suspect.
Further inquiry revealed that the accused had also sent a similar threatening email to authorities in Ahmedabad on February 16. The Ahmedabad City Cyber Police detained him on March 1, after which the Mumbai Police took him into custody for questioning.
The police are currently interrogating the suspect to ascertain whether the threats were a mere prank or part of a larger conspiracy or network. Legal procedures and court formalities are being initiated by the Dindoshi Police to secure the suspect’s custody for a more in-depth investigation into the conspiracy behind the threats directed at Mumbai establishments.
