A 54-year-old man was apprehended at Kalupur Railway Station in Ahmedabad for falsely claiming to be an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, verbally abusing on-duty police personnel, and obstructing official duties. The incident occurred on June 22 when the accused, traveling in a taxi and later at the railway station, got into a dispute with traffic management and security personnel. Allegedly, he insulted a police officer, used offensive language, criticized the handling of traffic duties, and asserted that officers were not fulfilling their obligations properly.
The man purportedly escalated the situation by identifying himself as an IPS officer, demanding respect, and questioning why he was not being saluted. Subsequently, he pushed an officer, engaged in a scuffle, tugged at the uniform of on-duty personnel, and made threats of transfers while impeding official work. Following the altercation, a case was filed at Ahmedabad Railway Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Authorities, with the help of CCTV footage and intelligence inputs, swiftly located and apprehended the accused, identified as John Daniel, a resident of Prahladnagar, Ahmedabad, who is employed in the private sector. The man, associated with the Student Police Cadet (SPC) program and having prior involvement with police-related initiatives, allegedly exhibited a false sense of authority during the incident. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Chetankumar Mundhwa highlighted that the accused’s behavior, including claiming to be an IPS officer and resorting to physical aggression, led to his arrest.
Preliminary investigations have not revealed any prior criminal record for the accused, but inquiries are ongoing to validate all aspects of the case. Authorities indicated that the man’s conduct seemed influenced by his exposure to police-related programs and interactions, leading to a misrepresentation of authority. Legal proceedings are underway in connection with the incident.
