Manchester United’s midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has agreed to a new long-term contract that will see him stay at the club until 2031, putting an end to speculations about his future with the English club. The 21-year-old, who is an England international, initially signed a contract in 2023, which was supposed to last until 2027 with an option for an additional year. However, uncertainties arose when Mainoo faced challenges in securing regular playtime under former manager Ruben Amorim.
Following Amorim’s departure in January, Mainoo experienced a revival under interim manager Michael Carrick. He has featured in 11 of the last 12 league matches, only missing the game against Leeds United due to injury. Mainoo expressed his commitment to Manchester United, calling it his home and emphasizing the club’s significance to his family. He highlighted his determination to contribute to the team’s pursuit of major trophies in the future.
Hailing from Stockport, Mainoo is regarded as one of the top talents of his generation. Having been associated with Manchester United since the age of six, he joined the club’s esteemed Academy in 2014. Despite his young age, the passionate United supporter has already made 98 appearances for the club, including scoring a crucial goal in the 2024 Emirates FA Cup final and representing England in the Euro 2024 final.
Jason Wilcox, Manchester United’s Director of Football, praised Mainoo’s exceptional talent, professionalism, and character, labeling him as a role model for younger players and a testament to the club’s Academy system. Wilcox expressed delight over Mainoo’s contract extension, foreseeing his evolution into one of the world’s best players and a key figure in a Manchester United team aiming for significant achievements.
