Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh praised the selection of Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi as the BJP candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election in the state. The nomination of Sharda Devi signifies the party’s dedication to empowering women and enhancing their involvement in public affairs.
Sharda Devi’s candidacy was approved by the BJP’s Central Election Committee for the Rajya Sabha election in Manipur. The current Rajya Sabha member from Manipur, Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba of the BJP, is nearing the end of his term on June 21, necessitating the upcoming election.
Expressing gratitude to the BJP leadership for choosing Sharda Devi, Chief Minister Singh highlighted her role in representing Manipur’s interests and contributing to the state and national development vision. Sharda Devi, in response to her nomination, emphasized her priorities of fostering peace and aiding the rehabilitation of those affected by ethnic conflicts in Manipur.
Senior BJP leader and Manipur’s Home Minister, Konthoujam Govindas Singh, also commended Sharda Devi’s selection for the Rajya Sabha seat, acknowledging her leadership qualities and dedication to the state’s progress. The upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, scheduled for June 18, will include contests for seats from various states across the country.
