Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla commended the state’s strong sporting heritage and the achievements of its athletes at the closing ceremony of the inaugural Bishnupur District Olympic Games 2026. He emphasized the importance of district-level sporting events in nurturing future champions and providing opportunities for young athletes to excel in sports.
Governor Bhalla highlighted the significance of grassroots initiatives like the District Olympic Games in identifying and supporting talented sportspersons to compete at higher levels. He also mentioned the role of national programs such as the Fit India Movement and Khelo India in enhancing the sporting ecosystem in the region.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh expressed optimism that the District Olympic Games would promote healthy competition among athletes and help in discovering and developing emerging sporting talent. The event, organized by the Bishnupur district administration and the Bishnupur District Olympic Association, aimed to instill values of discipline, teamwork, and excellence in young athletes.
The closing ceremony witnessed the participation of various dignitaries, including MLAs, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, and senior government officials, who joined in celebrating the success of the sporting event. The occasion featured cultural performances, sporting finals, and a remarkable band display by the Indian Army contingent, culminating in the felicitation of winners with prizes and medals.
