Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma stated that the state’s economy has doubled in the last five years, emphasizing the rapid infrastructure development and investment potential in Meghalaya. The North East India Infrastructure Summit and Exhibition 2026 was introduced at Meghalaya House in New Delhi, setting the stage for the upcoming event in Shillong on June 11 and 12.
Sangma pointed out that Meghalaya has become one of the fastest-growing economies in India, with a significant increase in capital investment over the years. He highlighted the state’s consistent economic progress, which has bolstered investor confidence, attributing this growth to strong government incentives and a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The Chief Minister also highlighted Meghalaya’s advancements in the information technology sector, with the first IT park operating at full capacity and plans for a second park underway. Additionally, he emphasized the state’s achievements in tourism, sports, and the creative economy, including the nomination of Living Root Bridges for UNESCO World Heritage status and Shillong’s recognition as a music capital.
Secretary of the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region, Sanjay Jaju, commended Meghalaya’s rapid growth, positioning it as one of the country’s fastest-growing states with a growth rate of 13–14%. He underscored Meghalaya’s emerging role as a hub for infrastructure, tourism, investment, and entrepreneurship within the Northeast region.
