Former chief minister and opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti confirmed her participation in the INDIA Bloc meeting scheduled for June 8 in Delhi. The INDIA Bloc is a multi-party political alliance in India, led by the Indian National Congress, aimed at countering the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.
Joining Mehbooba Mufti, former chief minister and National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah or his son, Omar Abdullah, will also be present at the INDIA Bloc meeting. The alliance, which includes 35 political parties, emerged victorious in the 2024 general election, securing 234 seats and dominating key states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and West Bengal.
The INDIA Bloc’s first joint event took place on December 22, 2023, amidst nationwide protests against the suspension of opposition MPs in the Indian Parliament. Notable leaders such as Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and NCP President Sharad Pawar participated in the protests, advocating for democracy and constitutional values.
