Following recent hailstorms in parts of Rajasthan, the Meteorological Department has issued a six-day alert for thunderstorms, rain, and gusty winds from May 1 to 6. The alert covers Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Kota, Jodhpur, Bikaner, and Udaipur divisions. A ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for Saturday in districts like Ajmer, Alwar, Bharatpur, and others, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and winds of 40–50 kmph.
In the last two days, areas like Jhalawar experienced heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and hail, resulting in a drop in temperatures. This weather shift has raised concerns among farmers about potential crop damage. The influence of active Western Disturbances is expected to maintain near-normal temperatures in the first half of May, with a pattern of hot days, cloudy evenings, and chances of thunderstorms and light rain.
Despite recent rainfall, daytime temperatures remained high in several areas. Cities like Bikaner, Churu, and Phalodi recorded temperatures between 42 to 44 degrees Celsius. Jaipur, the state capital, saw a maximum temperature of 40.8 degrees Celsius with intense heat during the day. Udaipur experienced heatwave-like conditions, while Ajmer and Alwar saw some relief from the heat due to cloud cover, winds, and light rain.
In Jodhpur, where temperatures reached around 40.5 degrees Celsius, severe heat conditions persist. Authorities have provided water and cooling facilities for animals. Sikar district recorded 39 degrees Celsius with gusty winds and light rain offering some respite. Kota recorded a maximum of 40 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 21.4 degrees Celsius with light rain in the evening. The Meteorological Centre in Jaipur predicts another Western Disturbance in the next few days, potentially bringing dust storms, thunderstorms, and scattered rainfall across the state.
