The Ministry of Civil Aviation has instructed Indian airlines operating international services to stay vigilant and monitor airspace advisories, Notice to Airmen (NOTAMs), and route restrictions. This directive aims to ensure passenger safety following the US and Israel’s military operation against Iran. Airlines are required to promptly reroute or divert flights as needed, adhering strictly to global safety protocols and contingency planning procedures. The Ministry emphasizes that passenger and crew safety is of utmost importance, with continuous monitoring in place to maintain safe and efficient air operations.
In response to the situation in the Middle East, the Ministry conducted a comprehensive review with stakeholders to enhance preparedness and response measures. The focus was on passenger safety, operational continuity, and real-time coordination amidst airspace restrictions and NOTAMs in the region. Airports, especially major international gateways, are on operational alert to handle potential flight diversions, unscheduled landings, and passenger needs efficiently.
To ensure seamless operations, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and private airport operators are advised to enhance coordination with airlines for various services like ground handling, parking, passenger amenities, crew logistics, and immigration support. A high-level meeting was held with key officials to discuss safety regulations, crew duty time limits, and operational advisories. Continuous monitoring mechanisms are to be activated to assess airspace dynamics and prevent disruptions to domestic schedules.
Passengers are urged to stay updated by contacting their airlines for travel information and schedule changes. Airlines are instructed to proactively inform passengers about delays, rerouting, or diversions to minimize inconvenience. The Ministry of Civil Aviation is in close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure smooth information flow and coordination for any emergent needs involving Indian carriers or nationals abroad.
