The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas disclosed that over 81,000 small 5 kg LPG cylinders were sold nationwide in April, totaling 17.83 lakh. Domestic LPG supply remains steady, with no dry-outs reported at retail distributorships. These 5 kg cylinders are commonly used by migrant workers in urban regions for cooking purposes.
Besides, 5.27 lakh PNG connections have been gasified, with infrastructure set up for an additional 2.60 lakh connections, reaching a total of 7.87 lakh connections. Additionally, around 5.97 lakh customers have registered for new connections. Notably, more than 42,000 PNG consumers have surrendered their LPG connections via the MYPNGD.in website.
Online domestic LPG cylinder bookings have surged to 98%, and authentication code-based deliveries to consumers’ registered mobile numbers have risen to about 94% to prevent diversion at the distributor level. The ministry has prioritized supplying cooking gas to households, despite overall LPG supply challenges due to the current geopolitical situation.
The commercial LPG sales saw over 8,483 metric tonnes sold on Wednesday, equivalent to more than 4.46 lakh 19 kg LPG cylinders, totaling 1,40,362 MT this month. Enforcement actions are ongoing nationwide to combat hoarding and black marketing of LPG, with over 1.5 lakh raids conducted and 66,000 cylinders seized.
Public sector oil companies are actively conducting surprise inspections, penalizing 298 LPG distributorships, and suspending 70 distributorships. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is ensuring the uninterrupted availability of petroleum products and LPG across the country, especially with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Citizens are urged against panic buying of petrol, diesel, and LPG, and to rely on official sources for accurate information.
All refineries are operating at high capacity with ample crude inventories, maintaining sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel. Local LPG production from refineries has been boosted to meet domestic demand.
