Hawa Mahal MLA Balmukund Acharya has voiced worries about the harmful effects of mobile games on children, emphasizing the need for immediate action to address this issue. During the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly’s fifth session, Acharya expressed that while technology has its conveniences, it also poses significant challenges, particularly for young individuals. He highlighted the concerning trend of children being drawn to violent games on mobile devices and TV screens, signaling a shift from traditional forms of entertainment and learning.
Acharya pointed out that in the past, children honed their creativity and knowledge through books and stories, but the emergence of digital entertainment has altered these practices. He raised alarm about the prevalence of violent themes in many mobile games, which could impede children’s cognitive growth and emotional well-being. The MLA underscored the detrimental impact of excessive gaming on children’s academic performance and mental health, noting instances where youngsters become overly engrossed in virtual worlds.
Expressing apprehension over the psychological risks associated with prolonged exposure to violent digital content, Acharya likened it to a “mental virus” that could impair young minds’ cognitive abilities and decision-making skills in the long term. He urged parents, educators, and policymakers to actively monitor children’s digital engagements and advocate for healthier pastimes like reading, sports, and creative pursuits to counterbalance the allure of digital gaming.
