Former India captain MS Dhoni praised the Indian team for their historic victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, describing it as a joy to witness their exceptional performance in the final against New Zealand. India secured a remarkable win by defeating New Zealand by 96 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, becoming the first team to retain the T20 World Cup title, clinch three championships, and lift the trophy at home.
Leading the team to victory, Captain Suryakumar Yadav, who has been unbeaten since assuming leadership in July 2024, and Sanju Samson’s explosive 89 runs helped India post a formidable 255/5 before the bowlers dismantled New Zealand for 159. Dhoni, present at the stadium during the final, shared a picture of the triumphant Indian team on Instagram, commending the players, coach, support staff, and fans for their contributions.
In his first post on the platform since July 2024, Dhoni expressed his delight at witnessing history being made in Ahmedabad and extended congratulations to the team, support staff, and fans worldwide. He also praised the team’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, for his guidance throughout the successful campaign, highlighting the coach’s winning smile and intensity as a lethal combination.
Dhoni specifically lauded India’s pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, hailing him as a ‘champion bowler’ for his pivotal role in the final match. The victory was underpinned by a dominant batting performance, with Samson’s 89 off 46 balls, supported by Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan’s half-centuries. The bowlers, led by Bumrah and Axar Patel, swiftly dismantled New Zealand’s top order, securing a resounding 96-run triumph.
