The Mumbai Crime Branch has made another arrest in connection with the recent firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence. An accused named Asharam Fasle from Pune has been apprehended for allegedly providing the gun used in the shooting. This brings the total number of arrests in the case to five individuals.
The Anti-Extortion Cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch took the latest suspect into custody. Asharam Fasle’s arrest marks the fifth individual detained in relation to the shooting incident. All five suspects are scheduled to appear in court today for remand proceedings.
Previously, four individuals had been arrested, and their police custody is set to expire today. However, the individual responsible for firing the shots outside Rohit Shetty’s house is still at large. Mumbai Police have identified Shubham Lonkar, an associate of incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, as the prime suspect behind targeting multiple Bollywood celebrities for extortion.
According to reports, these celebrities have been receiving threatening calls demanding ransom money. Despite the intimidation, none of them has lodged a formal complaint with the police out of fear. The shooting incident at Rohit Shetty’s Juhu bungalow occurred last Sunday, with investigators suspecting a motive to instill fear within the film industry.
Authorities have revealed that numerous celebrities are reluctant to approach the police, hindering the investigation. The police stress the importance of filing complaints to facilitate necessary actions. While social media posts by Lonkar have surfaced issuing warnings, Rohit Shetty has denied receiving any threats directly.
In a social media post, Lonkar issued a cautionary message to the industry, emphasizing consequences if warnings are ignored. Police have deployed multiple teams across the country to locate the shooters. Once the shooter is apprehended, investigators anticipate uncovering the mastermind behind the attack.
