The Mumbai Crime Branch is gearing up to take custody of Srinivas Lewis, a 47-year-old individual accused of sending over 1,100 threatening emails nationwide, with many targeting Mumbai. Lewis, believed to be the mastermind behind fake bomb threats causing panic, was arrested by the Delhi Police in Mysuru, Karnataka. Mumbai Police will soon interrogate him further.

Officials suspect Lewis may also be linked to more than 100 threatening emails in Mumbai and nearby regions over the last three years. He was apprehended during a joint operation by Delhi Police in Mysuru. Lewis allegedly sent hoax bomb threats to sensitive locations, prompting security alerts and creating widespread disruption and panic.

Mumbai Police officials are collaborating with Delhi counterparts to analyze Lewis’s past email activities, including patterns and linguistic style. If a solid connection is established, he will be brought to Mumbai for detailed questioning. Since 2023, a serial email threat sender in Mumbai has caused evacuations of government offices and financial institutions based on false claims of explosive devices.
