NCP-SP leader Naseem Siddiqui backed Maulana Sajid Rashidi’s comment linking rape cases to delayed marriages, stating that about 50% of rapes happen due to late marriage. Rashidi had stirred controversy with his remarks on the same issue earlier. Siddiqui emphasized the importance of early marriage for girls to prevent such incidents, highlighting societal double standards regarding premarital relations. He suggested that delayed marriages expose individuals to inappropriate content, potentially leading to misconduct.
Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission Chairperson Babita Chauhan criticized Rashidi’s views, labeling them as regressive and hindering women’s progress. Chauhan highlighted women’s achievements in various fields and stressed the need to empower women to achieve equality with men, attributing societal setbacks to such narrow mindsets.
