The National Testing Agency (NTA) Director General, Abhishek Singh, announced the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 exam following a preliminary investigation prompted by a whistleblower’s complaint about a question paper leak. Singh revealed that the decision was made after verifying that questions circulating before the exam matched the actual paper, compromising the fairness of the process for sincere students. Consequently, the exam will be conducted again to ensure integrity.
Singh stated that the matter has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a detailed probe into the alleged leak’s origins and extent. While the NTA focused on verifying the complaint’s validity, the CBI will delve into the network behind the leak, investigating those involved and the spread of irregularities across states. The cancellation of the exam has sparked widespread criticism, with concerns raised over recurring controversies in national-level competitive exams.
