The Election Commission of India (ECI) has rescheduled the publication date of the final voters’ list in West Bengal to February 28. Additionally, the ECI has set February 14 as the new deadline for completing the hearing sessions on claims and objections regarding the draft voters’ list in the state.
Following the completion of the hearing sessions on February 14, there will be a scrutiny of documents and disposal until February 21. By February 25, the rationalization of polling stations will be finalized, and by February 27, the health parameters of the polling stations will be checked.
The decisions to extend the deadlines were made during a meeting between the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manoj Kumar Agarwal and the full-bench of the ECI at the Commission’s headquarters in New Delhi. Initially, the deadline for the hearing sessions was February 7, with the final voters’ list scheduled for publication on February 14.
After the final voters’ list is published on February 28, the Commission’s full bench will visit West Bengal to assess the situation. Subsequently, the polling dates for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state will be announced.
