New Year celebrations took a tragic turn in Hyderabad as one person passed away and 15 others fell ill following a late-night party. The incident occurred at Bhavani Nagar under Jagadgirigutta Police Station in Cyberabad Police Commissionerate, Medchal Malkajgiri district. A group of 17 friends celebrated the New Year at Bhavani Nagar Welfare Association with Biryani and alcohol.

One of the individuals, identified as Pandu (53), succumbed to illness before reaching the hospital. Fifteen others were admitted to Narayana Malla Reddy Hospital. Authorities suspect food poisoning as the cause of the tragedy and have initiated an investigation, collecting samples for analysis.

In a separate incident in Vanasthalipuram, a man disrupted a police drunk driving check by protesting against a breath analyser test. His actions led to a traffic jam on the road, requiring police intervention to clear the situation. The police conducted a widespread crackdown on drunk driving across Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda, catching over 2,000 motorists driving under the influence.

Traffic curbs were enforced in the three commissionerates to ensure road safety during New Year celebrations, with special drives conducted to monitor traffic rule violations by revelers.
