The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka regarding a significant cache of explosives found in Kerala’s Malappuram district. Raids were carried out at 19 locations related to the suspects in case RC-01/2026/NIA/KOC, as well as at the residences of explosives dealers and manufacturers.
During the searches, investigators confiscated various digital devices, documents, and materials, including gelatin sticks. This case, involving the arrest of six individuals, has raised concerns about national security due to the large quantity of illicitly obtained explosives seized by Kerala Police earlier this year.
The local police initiated a case after discovering a truck loaded with explosives at Farha Hollow Bricks company in Malappuram district. The seized items comprised 89,600 gelatin sticks in 448 boxes and 10,500 non-electric detonators in 35 boxes, all procured without a valid license for unlawful purposes.
NIA assumed control of the investigation in April 2026 and is actively pursuing leads to uncover the origins of the illegally acquired explosive materials and their intended use.
