A notorious criminal in Bihar’s Sitamarhi district was fatally shot on Saturday at Bhisa Chowk under the Dumra police station area. The victim, Rambabu Rai, known for serious offenses, was critically injured by unknown assailants who opened fire on him around 5 p.m., causing panic in the area. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Rai succumbed to his injuries.
Eyewitnesses described the attack as sudden, leading to Rai collapsing with severe wounds. With a history of multiple criminal cases, including murder and kidnapping, Rai had long been a target for law enforcement due to his criminal activities. Police teams swiftly responded to the incident, initiating a thorough investigation into the matter.
Sitamarhi Superintendent of Police, Amit Ranjan, confirmed the incident and assured that a comprehensive probe was underway. The investigation is exploring various angles, including personal enmity, gang conflicts, and past disputes. Law enforcement authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and intensifying efforts to identify and apprehend the perpetrators to ensure justice.
Tension gripped the locality following the incident, prompting authorities to bolster security measures to maintain peace and order. In a separate development, a joint team from the Saharsa Intelligence Unit and Sadar Police Station arrested another notorious criminal, Abhishek Kumar, with a reward of Rs 25,000. Kumar, involved in illegal activities like drug trafficking, was apprehended during a raid in Bhelwa Ward No. 7.
Police highlighted Kumar’s alleged involvement in illicit activities, leading to a proposal for the confiscation of his assets under Section 107 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Commending the raiding team, the Saharsa Superintendent of Police emphasized the continuation of such operations to combat crime and uphold law and order in the district.
