President Droupadi Murmu will present the Padma Awards 2026 at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday during the first Civil Investiture Ceremony. Among the recipients of the Padma Shri this year are Techi Gubin, a social worker from Arunachal Pradesh, and Ratilal Borisagar, a Gujarati writer. Techi Gubin, a retired chief architect, has dedicated 26 years to social service with Kalyan Ashram.
Gubin expressed his surprise and joy at receiving the award, mentioning that he had not applied for it and was unaware of the selection process. He attributed the credit for the award to his organization, ‘Kalyan Ashram,’ where he has been actively involved for over two decades. The Union Home Ministry invited him to Delhi on January 25 to receive the award on May 25.
Ratilal Borisagar, an Ahmedabad-based former teacher, is another Padma Shri awardee recognized for his contributions to Gujarati literature. Borisagar commended the government for acknowledging individuals who may not be widely known but are making significant impacts in their respective fields. He particularly praised the Indian government for honoring lesser-known individuals who excel in their work.
The Padma Shri is a prestigious civilian award in India, recognizing outstanding achievements in various fields such as art, literature, education, and social work. This year’s selection highlights social workers and writers from rural and lesser-known backgrounds, showcasing diverse contributions to society.
