A Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports recently assessed the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination and deliberated on enhancing the national-level entrance exam system. The focus was on managing the NEET, the role of the National Testing Agency (NTA), and strategies to boost the security and transparency of future exams.
During the meeting, members suggested conducting separate entrance tests for MBBS, AYUSH, and Nursing courses to reduce the candidate load for a single exam. However, the NTA expressed that this approach is currently unfeasible as admissions for these programs rely on NEET scores. The panel also proposed exploring the option of holding NEET in multiple phases across various states to tackle logistical challenges.
The Parliamentary Committee, led by Chairperson Mukul Wasnik, commended the conduct of the NEET UG 2026 re-exam and the security measures implemented during the process. Noteworthy security enhancements included restricting access to Telegram, monitoring WhatsApp channels, and redesigning question papers for improved security. The committee emphasized that any shift to a computer-based NEET should occur only after ensuring nationwide digital infrastructure readiness and equitable candidate access.
