The people of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) have made an appeal to the Indian government for assistance, highlighting the escalating crisis in the region. Protests have persisted in PoK for over a month, with no signs of resolution from either the demonstrators or the Pakistani authorities. The appeal from PoK residents, requesting medicines and essential food supplies from India, underscores the severe humanitarian situation in the area.
Indian officials have noted that the Pakistani establishment, under Field Marshal Asim Munir’s directives, has blocked the delivery of ration and medicines to PoK for the past 20 days. This blockade strategy aims to pressure the people of PoK to end their protests by creating food and medical shortages. The situation has deteriorated to the extent that many residents are now attempting to flee PoK and seek refuge in India.
The crackdown on protesters in PoK has intensified, prompting calls for a safe passage into India from leaders like Sardar Aman of the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC). The request to open the Line of Control (LoC) comes amidst reports of the Pakistan military’s readiness to use force against protesters if demonstrations persist. The JAAC has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Pakistani government to address their demands or face escalated agitation.
