Plans have been set in motion to establish 101 oxygen parks in Ahmedabad and conduct a significant plantation campaign across 308 sites in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency. These initiatives are part of a broader program to enhance urban greenery and provide the public with more access to green spaces. The decisions were made during a meeting chaired by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah in Ahmedabad, attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and other key officials.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will be responsible for developing the 101 oxygen parks, which will feature amenities like walking tracks, lighting, signage, parking, and children’s play areas. The Home Minister emphasized the need for all park details, including visuals and GPS coordinates, to be accessible on a single online platform for public convenience. Additionally, a massive plantation drive is scheduled for July 12 at 308 identified locations in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, with collaboration between various departments and public involvement.
As part of the green cover expansion program, the Forest Department has been tasked with planting over 60 lakh saplings and establishing 82 green protection zones known as “Van Kavach.” The overall plantation target across different agencies exceeds 1.26 crore trees, with contributions from municipal bodies, development authorities, industries, and voluntary organizations. Various entities have been assigned specific planting targets, with commitments from organizations, social groups, banks, and industries to plant and maintain approximately 28.50 lakh trees.
To encourage broader public engagement, households in different types of residences will receive complimentary saplings. This initiative is aligned with the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0” campaign, where institutions are expected to engage in plantation activities through corporate social responsibility initiatives.
