Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his gratitude for being part of the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav in Gir Somnath, Gujarat, where the shrine marked the 75th anniversary of its reconstruction in 1951. He shared a video on social media, highlighting the significance of the occasion and the devotion present at the temple.
The Somnath Temple, an ancient Shiva temple and one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, has a rich history of destruction and reconstruction over the centuries. The recent celebrations honored the temple’s restoration and its reopening by India’s first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, in 1951.
During his visit, PM Modi engaged in a roadshow in Somnath, accompanied by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi. The event drew a large crowd, with people lining the route to welcome the Prime Minister and participating in cultural performances along the way.
The temple complex witnessed elaborate rituals and prayers as part of the anniversary celebrations. PM Modi actively took part in various ceremonies, symbolizing the cultural and religious significance of the Somnath Temple. The event was marked by traditional practices, including flag hoisting, religious rites, and the showering of flower petals from helicopters.
