Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent warm wishes to the people of Manipur, Tripura, and Meghalaya on their Statehood Day. These states were granted full statehood on January 21, 1972, under the North Eastern Areas Reorganisation Act, 1971, and this day is now celebrated annually to honor their journey and cultural contributions.
PM Modi praised Manipur for its significant role in India’s progress, particularly in sports, culture, and nature. He encouraged the state to continue its development trajectory. Similarly, he commended Tripura for its blend of tradition and modernity, acknowledging the state’s advancements across various sectors that contribute to India’s growth.
Furthermore, PM Modi acknowledged Meghalaya’s contributions to the nation’s development and admired its cultural richness and natural beauty. He expressed hope for Meghalaya to achieve greater heights of progress in the future. The northeastern region, including Manipur and Tripura, transitioned from Union Territory status to full statehood on January 21, 1972.
