The discussion between PM Modi and President Trump occurred amidst the West Asia conflict triggered by US and Israel strikes on Iran in late February, leading to the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran launched drone and missile attacks on US, Israeli facilities, and allied forces in West Asia. This conflict has heightened pressure on global markets, with energy prices remaining sensitive to regional developments.
President Trump and PM Modi have a longstanding political partnership marked by significant public events and diplomatic interactions. Their mutual admiration has been evident in public statements, highlighting collaboration in trade, defense, and strategic ties between the US and India. Last year, Trump expressed his intention to visit India, with a potential US Presidential visit linked to the Quad Summit involving India, the US, Japan, and Australia.

They emphasized the importance of energy security and pledged to continue their collaborative efforts. The US State Department noted that Secretary Rubio and EAM Jaishankar affirmed the need to work together to advance shared priorities.
