Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged people nationwide to buy clay Ganesh idols crafted by Indian artisans before the upcoming Ganesh Utsav. This initiative not only helps protect the environment but also supports the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign by backing traditional potters and craftsmen. During his monthly radio show ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ PM Modi highlighted the significance of Ganesh Utsav preparations that start months in advance, emphasizing the importance of eco-friendly practices and local craftsmanship.
Many individuals had requested PM Modi to discuss Ganesh Utsav, even though the festival is still some time away. The Prime Minister acknowledged these requests and stressed the early start of idol-making activities, urging everyone to ensure that the Ganpati Bappa idols in their homes are made from Indian soil by local potters and artisans. He urged both idol makers and buyers to opt for clay idols, emphasizing the avoidance of Plaster of Paris idols and the importance of checking materials and origins.
PM Modi underscored the environmental advantages of clay idols, noting their natural dissolution in water post-worship, which aids in reducing pollution and safeguarding natural water bodies. By purchasing idols directly from local artisans, he stated that individuals contribute to bolstering India’s traditional crafts sector, promoting self-reliance, and endorsing indigenous products. The Prime Minister concluded by emphasizing that the nation’s strength lies in its people and their collective efforts towards positive transformations.
