In Chakradharpur, Jharkhand, a significant police operation uncovered a human trafficking scheme, leading to the rescue of 36 laborers and six underage individuals. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team from the police and the Labour Department conducted a raid at a hotel where the victims were being readied for transportation to Gujarat.
The swift action was prompted by information indicating the presence of a large group of laborers and children at the hotel, awaiting transfer to another state. A specialized team comprising officials from the police, Labour Department, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), and Childline was assembled under the Senior Superintendent of Police’s directives.
During the operation, numerous laborers and children were discovered at the hotel, and a bus owned by a travel company, intended for transporting the victims to Gujarat, was seized by the police. Of the rescued minors, five were boys and one was a girl, all of whom were handed over to Childline Chaibasa as per the Child Welfare Committee’s instructions.
Two individuals from Morbi, Gujarat, identified as Nikunj Govind Borsania and Kadivar Nilesh, were apprehended in connection with the case. They stand accused of enticing laborers and minors for interstate transportation. The suspects have been charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and child labor laws and have been incarcerated.
Authorities are now probing the local connections and broader network of the trafficking syndicate in collaboration with the Labour Department to dismantle the organized human trafficking operations originating from Jharkhand.
