In a significant development in efforts to enhance safety in Punjab, Gurdaspur Police, in collaboration with Counter Intelligence (CI) Punjab, has cracked the case of a grenade throw. Three individuals have been apprehended, and an additional hand grenade was seized from them, as confirmed by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav. The arrested individuals are identified as Amarjit Singh, also known as Billa, from Jalandhar; Karanjit Singh, alias Karan, from Amritsar; and Satnam Singh from Amritsar.
On April 27, an unexploded hand grenade was discovered near a shop on Geeta Bhawan Road in Gurdaspur. Following its safe disposal by the bomb squad, the police took possession of the grenade. DGP Yadav mentioned that after a thorough investigation, the police pinpointed the culprits responsible for throwing the hand grenade near the shop.
During the probe, another hand grenade was found at the residence of Amarjit Singh, one of the arrested suspects. Preliminary findings suggest that these individuals were following instructions from a foreign-based handler and had received two hand grenades from this source. Senior Superintendent of Police (Gurdaspur) Aditya shared that swift action was taken post-incident, with the arrest of the three suspects aided by CCTV footage, human intelligence, and technical analysis.
Further inquiries are ongoing to establish connections to foreign handlers and local accomplices. The police anticipate more arrests and recoveries in the days ahead. Initially, a case was registered under the Explosive Substances Act in Gurdaspur on April 27, with additional sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) included subsequently.
