Addressing his monthly radio program Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Indian students for their outstanding performance at an international mathematics competition. He highlighted the pressure these students faced while solving complex mathematical problems within a limited time frame of four and a half hours. Despite the tough competition, the Prime Minister commended the exceptional performance of Indian schoolgirls at the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad held in Bordeaux, France.
The Prime Minister expressed pride in the Indian team’s achievement, ranking sixth globally at the Olympiad. He specifically mentioned the success of Shreya Mundhra, Sanjana Chacko, Shivani Bharat Kumar, and Shrimoyee Bera, who won Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals, respectively. Modi emphasized the rigorous selection process that Indian students undergo to represent the country at such prestigious international competitions, involving challenges at regional, state, and national levels, followed by a month-long Mathematics Training Camp.
Every year, approximately 6 lakh students participate in the Mathematical Olympiad Programme, showcasing the increasing popularity of this culture among Indian students. The Prime Minister acknowledged the parents for their support towards nurturing the mathematical talents of their daughters, contributing to the success of Indian students on the global stage.
