Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized the ruling party in the Lok Sabha for quoting India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, despite frequently criticizing him. During a debate on a resolution to remove Om Birla as Speaker, Priyanka Gandhi found it ironic that those who usually attack Nehru were now praising him for his role in strengthening Indian democracy. She highlighted this contradiction in the ruling party’s stance towards Nehru’s legacy amid a heated political exchange in the House.
Priyanka Gandhi also defended Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, stating that he has remained resolute despite continuous government attacks. She praised Rahul Gandhi for speaking the truth fearlessly, a quality she claimed the government finds hard to accept. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju emphasized the importance of all MPs, regardless of their affiliation, adhering to parliamentary rules and the Constitution. Rijiju’s statement was seen as a direct reference to Rahul Gandhi’s conduct.
