Bengali cinema icon Prosenjit Chatterjee, honored with India’s Padma Shri award, believes the current environment is conducive for Indian talent to shine globally. President Droupadi Murmu presented him with the award for his significant artistic contributions spanning over 40 years and 400 films. Expressing gratitude, Chatterjee acknowledged his audience, the nation, and the government for the prestigious recognition.
Indian cinema’s evolution and government support schemes were highlighted by Chatterjee, emphasizing the enduring impact of films on audiences. He expressed optimism about Indian cinema’s potential on the international stage, beyond just Hindi films, recognizing the diverse talent across various regional languages like Marathi, Bengali, Malayalam, and Punjabi. Chatterjee praised the government’s initiatives in fostering a collaborative environment for talents from different linguistic backgrounds to flourish.
The Padma awards ceremony took place at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in the national capital, where Chatterjee, clad in traditional attire, was honored for his remarkable contributions to the film industry.
