Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring criticized the government for the recent increases in petrol and diesel prices. He accused the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government of raising fuel prices despite a drop in global crude oil prices and significant profits by oil companies. Warring expressed concern over the continuous rise in fuel prices, labeling it as a burden on the people.
Warring highlighted that the BJP government had raised petrol and diesel prices four times in just 10 days, describing it as a form of inflation imposed on the public. He questioned the necessity of such hikes when oil prices were falling globally and oil companies were already making substantial profits. The Congress leader emphasized that the government’s actions were adding to the economic challenges faced by various segments of society.
The Punjab Congress President pointed out that petrol prices had surged by over Rs 7.5 per litre within a short span, with a similar increase seen in diesel prices. He raised concerns about the impact of these price hikes on the middle class, farmers, transporters, small traders, daily-wage earners, and youth. Warring noted that petrol prices in Delhi had exceeded Rs 102 per litre and diesel had reached Rs 95.20 per litre, with even higher rates in metro cities.
Warring criticized the government for the latest hike, which raised petrol prices by Rs 2.61 per litre and diesel by Rs 2.71 per litre. He emphasized that the continuous increase in fuel prices had a direct impact on transportation costs and the prices of essential commodities, affecting households across the country.
