The foreign ministers of the Quad countries are set to convene in the Philippines in approximately two weeks, as revealed by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor. Gor emphasized the Quad’s pivotal role in advancing a free, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific during the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum Leadership Summit. The anticipated meeting will gather the foreign ministers of the United States, India, Japan, and Australia on the sidelines of engagements in the Philippines.
Gor expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming Quad meeting, highlighting the significance of such engagements. He mentioned plans for the foreign ministers to assemble in the Philippines, followed by another ministerial gathering in Australia. Subsequently, the leaders of the four countries are expected to meet at a future summit, with the possibility of President Trump visiting India.
Maritime security stands out as a key priority for the Quad, according to Gor. He underscored the importance of the Quad and its commitment to enhancing maritime capabilities across the Indo-Pacific. Notably, initiatives such as strengthening maritime capabilities and fostering partnerships in the Pacific region, including with Fiji, were discussed during the recent Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi.
Gor dismissed any notions of a weakened India-US defence partnership, emphasizing the ongoing expansion of practical cooperation between the two nations. He highlighted the frequency of joint exercises and exchanges between Indian and US troops, with continuous engagement in various activities. The United States considers India a trusted strategic partner in the Indo-Pacific and aims to deepen collaboration across defence, maritime security, advanced technology, and regional stability.
