Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, scheduled to visit Indore on January 17, will meet families in Bhagirathpura, where nearly two dozen people died from contaminated water recently. The Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee confirmed that Gandhi plans to show solidarity with the affected families during his visit. Additionally, a protest organized by the Madhya Pradesh Congress will highlight the lapses that led to the tragedy, with senior party leaders expected to participate.
The protest, set for January 17, will see Congress workers staging sit-ins at Mahatma Gandhi’s statues across Madhya Pradesh. The visit of Rahul Gandhi is anticipated to intensify political tensions in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and other state BJP leaders have criticized the Congress, accusing them of politicizing the tragedy.
During a program in Indore, Chief Minister Yadav expressed the government’s efforts to assist the affected residents of Bhagirathpura. He urged the Congress to address the issue constructively and welcomed their suggestions. Meanwhile, Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya rebuked the Congress for questioning Indore’s status as the cleanest city in India. Vijayvargiya emphasized the need to face challenges and highlighted the BJP’s contributions to Indore’s development.
