The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for severe heatwave conditions in various districts of Rajasthan over the next four days. Sriganganagar topped the list as the hottest city in the state, hitting 46.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Pilani in Jhunjhunu at 45.3 degrees Celsius. Other cities like Phalodi, Bikaner, Churu, Kota, Alwar, and Chittorgarh also experienced scorching temperatures above 44 degrees Celsius.
In response to the extreme heat, preventive measures are being implemented in different cities. Water sprinkling near Zorawar Singh Gate in Jaipur and morning/evening water spraying at cattle shelters in Kota are among the steps taken to mitigate the impact of the heatwave. Despite some areas like Sirohi and Pratapgarh recording temperatures below 40 degrees Celsius, most regions are grappling with the intense heatwave.
Jaipur witnessed a slight temperature drop on Wednesday, yet residents endured high temperatures throughout the day. Alwar faced temperatures nearing 45 degrees Celsius for the third consecutive day, prompting the Municipal Corporation to take measures like water sprinkling and shade provision. Ajmer also felt the heat, with temperatures reaching 40.9 degrees Celsius during the day and 28.6 degrees Celsius at night.
The Shekhawati region, including Sikar district, has been enduring a prolonged heatwave for the past six days. Sikar recorded 43 degrees Celsius as the maximum temperature on Wednesday. Hot winds and soaring temperatures have disrupted daily life in many parts of the state, leading to deserted roads during peak afternoon hours.
