Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to conserve petrol and diesel, the Rajasthan government has taken steps to reduce government expenditure and conserve fuel. A circular issued by the Finance Department outlines various measures, including a ban on foreign travel at government expense for ministers, officials, and employees. The new policy mandates that all future vehicle purchases by government departments and public institutions will be Electric Vehicles (EVs).
Under the circular, existing petrol and diesel vehicles will be gradually replaced with EVs, starting with officials operating within city limits. The guidelines also emphasize car-pooling for officials and employees, a reduction in government convoys, and a shift towards video conferencing and digital governance. Meetings and events within government premises are encouraged, while the use of private vehicles for shared travel is permitted.
Moreover, the circular highlights the promotion of EV charging infrastructure, the mandatory use of e-Office and e-Files to reduce paper-based correspondence, and the installation of solar plants in government offices to meet electricity requirements. Energy conservation measures include switching off lights, fans, coolers, and air conditioners before leaving offices. The government aims to strengthen sustainability efforts and reduce non-agricultural use of urea through various initiatives.
