The Rajasthan government is focusing on making the state a prominent sports hub in preparation for the 2028 Olympic Games. With the motto “With Sports, and Beyond Sports,” the government has introduced various programs to nurture sporting talent, improve training facilities, ensure financial stability for athletes, and aid in international competition readiness, including the Olympics. One of the key initiatives is the ‘Rajasthan Target Olympic Podium Scheme,’ which includes special provisions for medal-winning athletes and a Sports Life Insurance Scheme.
To gear up athletes for the 2028 Olympics, the government has rolled out the ‘Rajasthan Target Olympic Podium Scheme,’ mirroring the Central government’s Olympic preparation strategy. This scheme aims to identify and support 50 talented athletes from Rajasthan by offering top-notch coaching, scientific training, sports gear, nutritional assistance, and modern amenities. Additionally, selected athletes will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 25,000 to aid in their training and preparation efforts.
A crucial part of this initiative involves establishing a Rajasthan Centre of Excellence in Jaipur, providing athletes with access to high-quality infrastructure and training facilities on par with international standards. The scheme is particularly designed for athletes not covered under the Central government’s Target Olympic Podium Scheme, with a notable reservation of 20% of slots for para-athletes.
The government has set up the Rajasthan Mission Olympic Committee and the State Talent Search and Development Committee to oversee athlete selection and performance, ensuring transparency and efficient implementation. Moreover, the policy of out-of-turn appointments for exceptional sportspersons has been reinforced to offer long-term career stability to athletes who bring honor to the state.
