The Rajasthan Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Draft Committee has affirmed that all opinions, whether in favor of the proposed law, suggesting changes, or expressing disagreement, will be equally considered in finalizing the legislation. The public consultation on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC)-2026 in Rajasthan saw broad participation, with various societal representatives providing input during a public hearing in Jaipur. Chaired by Shatrughna Singh and coordinated by V. Saravana Kumar, the hearing aimed at gathering diverse viewpoints.
Shatrughna Singh, the Chairman of the UCC Bill Drafting Committee, highlighted the government’s dedication to ensuring extensive public engagement in formulating the Uniform Civil Code. Seeking input from multiple stakeholders like public representatives, religious figures, legal experts, and the general populace, the committee aims to create a fair legal framework covering aspects such as marriage, divorce, and inheritance. Singh emphasized the importance of analyzing all suggestions received before finalizing the draft legislation.
The committee welcomes all perspectives on the Uniform Civil Code, including those supporting the draft, proposing amendments, or expressing dissent. Singh stressed the seriousness with which every suggestion will be reviewed, urging citizens to actively participate in the consultation process. Divisional Commissioner V. Saravana Kumar mentioned the wide participation in the hearing, involving various professionals and organizations, and announced a forthcoming public hearing for Jaipur residents.
Manish Goyal, the Joint Secretary (Administration) representing the Home Department, highlighted the government’s efforts to gather public feedback through physical and online platforms. SMS messages containing the UCC consultation link have been sent to Jan Aadhaar cardholders in Rajasthan, facilitating their participation. The UCC Rajasthan portal allows individuals to provide feedback, answer questions, and submit suggestions or documents, aiming for a comprehensive engagement process.
Prominent figures such as Hawa Mahal MLA Mahant Balmukundacharya and Jaipur District Collector Sandesh Nayak were present at the hearing, along with members of the UCC Drafting Committee and other notable individuals. District Collectors from various Jaipur division districts also participated via video conferencing.
