Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the coordinated effort to rescue hundreds of tourists stuck mid-air due to a technical issue with the Gulmarg Gondola service in Jammu and Kashmir. The operation involved multiple agencies and led to the safe evacuation of nearly 300 stranded tourists. Singh highlighted the efficiency and professionalism of the Indian Army, J&K Police, NDRF, SDRF, and civil administration in carrying out the challenging rescue mission.
A routine cable car ride in Gulmarg turned into a frightening experience for tourists when the Gondola service faced a sudden breakdown, leaving them suspended in the air for hours. Following the incident, a joint rescue team comprising various agencies, including the Indian Army and NDRF, worked tirelessly to rescue the trapped tourists from the cable cars hanging over the mountainous terrain.
The technical malfunction occurred during the first phase of the Gulmarg Gondola service, disrupting operations and stranding visitors in the popular tourist destination. The rescue operation, conducted under difficult mountain conditions, successfully evacuated all tourists from the chair cars without any reported injuries.
Authorities confirmed that all the stranded tourists were safely rescued from the cable cars, averting any injuries or casualties during the challenging operation. The Gulmarg Gondola service, known for its scenic views, connects Gulmarg bowl to Kangdori and extends up to Apharwat Peak, offering breathtaking vistas of the Himalayan region.
