Amid global security changes like the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted how modern warfare has evolved, focusing on technology over troop numbers. He stressed the significance of countries producing their own weapons, shaping their destinies. Singh inaugurated a defense and aerospace manufacturing hub, symbolizing India’s move towards high-tech prowess.
The newly launched Rs 1,000-crore facility in Savali Vihir near Shirdi, spanning 200 acres, is India’s largest private-sector artillery plant. Singh underlined India’s strategic shift towards self-reliance in defense, aiming to boost indigenous manufacturing across critical technologies. He emphasized the importance of ‘Make in India’ for munitions and automated systems to enhance India’s capabilities.
Singh called for unity in the defense industry to safeguard India’s skies, acknowledging past limitations in adapting to modern technological needs. He praised the private sector’s growth in defense production, evolving from mere suppliers to innovators of cutting-edge weapon systems. Singh expressed pride in the private sector’s increased role, now contributing significantly to India’s defense manufacturing landscape.
