Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan announced that the 270th Session of the Rajya Sabha achieved a productivity rate of 109.87%, operating for a total of 157 hours and 40 minutes. This session marked the conclusion of the Budget Session of Parliament, with significant participation from Members. During the session, the House addressed 117 questions, received 446 zero-hour submissions, and noted 207 special mentions.
Among the three parliamentary sessions, the Budget Session holds paramount importance due to its length and impact on the nation’s development trajectory. The decisions made, policies endorsed, and priorities set during this session directly influence the lives of all citizens. The session commenced with discussions on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address, involving 79 Members over four days, followed by a comprehensive debate on the Union Budget 2026–27 with the participation of 97 Members.
The session also saw the introduction of 50 Private Members’ Bills and the re-election of Harivansh Narayan Singh as the Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha for the third term. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the ongoing West Asia conflict and the nation’s energy challenges. The discussions during this session were crucial in shaping the country’s future direction and policies.
