Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi received an official reprimand for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the third ODI against India in Chennai. The breach was related to causing deliberate or avoidable damage to the pitch, resulting in one demerit point added to Shahidi’s disciplinary record.
Shahidi had been warned twice unofficially for running on the pitch while batting before receiving an official warning during the 31st over of the Afghanistan innings. Despite the warning, he ran down the pitch in the 40th over, leading to a five-run penalty for his team.
In the match, India secured a nine-wicket victory with fast bowler Prasidh Krishna’s five-wicket haul and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s unbeaten century. Prasidh’s impressive figures of 5-23, including four scalps in the power-play, helped India bowl out Afghanistan for 218 in 44.2 overs. Meanwhile, Jaiswal’s 110 off 86 balls, supported by Rohit Sharma’s 79, guided India to victory with 128 balls to spare.
India’s strong start saw Rohit and Jaiswal reaching 42 without loss at the end of the fifth over. Jaiswal’s aggressive batting, including boundaries off Fareed Ahmad in the seventh over, propelled India to 86 without loss by the end of the power-play.
