Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has expressed doubts about Dawood Ibrahim’s role in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts. In a conversation with author S. Hussain Zaidi, Varma stated that while Dawood Ibrahim is the prime accused, there is a lack of concrete evidence linking him to the bombings. Varma highlighted the absence of material or circumstantial evidence against Dawood Ibrahim in the court of law.
Many of S. Hussain Zaidi’s works, such as ‘Black Friday’ and ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi,’ have been adapted for the screen. Varma emphasized his belief that Dawood Ibrahim’s alleged involvement in the blasts is not supported by convincing evidence. Despite confessional statements implicating Dawood Ibrahim, Varma pointed out that these statements lack corroboration and do not establish his guilt beyond doubt.
Varma raised questions about the confessional statements, suggesting that their authenticity and credibility are questionable. He expressed skepticism about Dawood Ibrahim’s motive for orchestrating the blasts, citing his lifestyle and interests as inconsistent with such actions. Varma portrayed Dawood Ibrahim as a figure persecuted beyond justification, given the lack of substantial proof linking him to the 1993 Mumbai bombings.
