Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has commended Washington Sundar for his unbeaten 40 runs that led Gujarat Titans to a four-wicket victory over Punjab Kings in the IPL. Sundar’s composed innings effectively addressed concerns about the team’s middle-order strength. Walking in at 94/3, Sundar’s quick 40 off 23 balls at a strike rate of 173.91 ensured Gujarat Titans successfully chased down 164 runs.
Ashwin noted that Sundar’s performance showcased the team’s depth beyond the top three batsmen. Despite not being flashy, Sundar’s calm approach under pressure was crucial in securing the win. Ashwin praised Gujarat Titans for their methodical approach to run chases, emphasizing their consistency and strategic play rather than relying on explosive batting.
With three consecutive wins under their belt, the Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans will face Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on May 9.
