The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Women’s Cell in Bihar organized a protest march in Patna condemning derogatory remarks about Bihar women by Girdhari Lal Sahu, husband of Uttarakhand minister Rekha Arya and a BJP leader. The march, starting from the RJD state office, culminated at the Income Tax roundabout where an effigy was burned in protest.
The protest resonated with slogans denouncing the insults towards Bihar women and calling for accountability from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Anita Bharti, the State Executive President of RJD Women’s Cell, led the effigy-burning event at the Income Tax roundabout. RJD state president Mangani Lal Mandal emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards disrespecting women during the demonstration.
Addressing the gathering before the march, Mandal highlighted the protest as a stern message to the BJP, emphasizing the need to address the underlying issue reflected in Sahu’s remarks. RJD state spokesperson Ejaz Ahmed criticized the silence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and senior BJP leaders on the matter, suggesting complicity in protecting individuals making such comments.
A significant number of women leaders and party members, including Sarika Paswan and Mukund Singh, participated in the protest. During the demonstration, demands were made for the immediate expulsion of Girdhari Lal Sahu from the BJP and accountability from party leadership for the dignity of Bihar women. The leaders also called for stringent actions against Sahu and urged the dismissal of his wife, Rekha Arya, from the Uttarakhand government.
