The Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) has revealed a 16-member Parliamentary Board led by veteran politician K. C. Tyagi from Haryana. The board, as per a social media post by party President Jayant Singh, includes four special invitees.
Chaudhary Ajit Singh, founder of RLD and son of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, established the party as a splinter group of the Janata Dal. Ajit Singh, Jayant’s father, initially elected as a Congress candidate, later formed the Bharatiya Kisan Kamgar Party, which eventually transformed into RLD in 1999.
With a focus on representing farmers, peasants, and marginalized groups, RLD aligns itself with socialist and secular ideologies. In the 2024 general elections, RLD allied with the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and secured victories in both contested seats in Uttar Pradesh.
The newly announced members of the party’s Parliamentary Board include former MPs, ex-ministers, and MLAs. The board’s restructuring aims to fortify the organization and enhance its parliamentary strategies, as per an RLD statement.
K. C. Tyagi, born in 1950 in a farmer’s family in Ghaziabad, embarked on his political career through student politics, eventually becoming a Parliamentarian. Known for his involvement in the socialist movement, Tyagi served as the chief spokesperson of Janata Dal and later Janata Dal (United). He gained recognition for opposing Sanjay Gandhi during the Emergency and has a reputation as a skilled analyst and political strategist.
Tyagi represented the Hapur Lok Sabha seat from 1989 to 1991 and later served in the Rajya Sabha from Bihar between 2013 and 2016. After resigning from his role as JD-U national spokesperson in 2024 due to personal reasons, Tyagi joined RLD on March 22 of the same year.
